Kindergarten Common Core

I have spent countless hours on Pinterest, Teachers Pay Teachers, blogs, etc... trying to find lots of resources so that I can implement the Kindergarten Common Core Standards. Alas! I have found everything I need in one book! I just downloaded the sample, and I'm in love. I emailed my team and principal the link to this awesome resource. I'm hoping they will agree to purchase this!  Head on over to their website and check it out!

Well, I started working in my room on Thursday...it's coming along. I went back yesterday and today...AND NO A/C! AHHHHH, it's too hot in Florida to work in your classroom without a/c. Holy moly!

My dad use to work in an office and apparently they went through Folgers coffee, like it was the last cup they were EVER going to drink! Because of this I have acquired 20 Folgers plastic containers. I saw this idea on Pinterest (the pin is gone! :/)

Holy Common Core Conference!

I just came back from a LONG 4 day Common Core conference in Orlando. Good grief, my head feels like it's going to explode. The standards themselves are fine, nothing that I haven't been doing, but the how they decided to meet with us and go over them was insane! LOTS and LOTS of talking, HOURS and HOURS of sitting. I'm so glad it's over!

a new school year is coming :)

I've been "blog stalking". I still can't get over all of the amazing blogs I see. I want to do a everything on those blogs but I need to keep my focus. I've decided that my theme for this year is going to Monsters (Furry Friends). AHHHHH!!!!

I found a great deal at Michael's when school started this past year, Furry Friends by Trends. All these items were 70%-90% off!

Marshmallow Measuring

I got this awesome measuring idea from Kelli Bollman Marshmallow Measurement (FREE). I then decided to measure the kiddos with the big marshmallows. We talked about adding more or taking away, counting by 10's, then 1's. Of course, after all was said and done, they ate the marshmallows! We had so much fun :)

Reading Drawers!

So, I've been reading all about Reading boxes for students. I've been racking my brain what could I use that would last for more than one year...so here is my idea! Each student has a drawer with their name and books just for them!

St. Patrick's Day Worksheets

Shamrock Sight Word Hunt
At one of reading stations, I had clip boards and this word hunt worksheet. I numbered the shamrocks 1-19 (we just finished numbers 11-19 in Math and currently we happen to have 19 words.) It helped the students keep track of the words they found and which ones are missing. They really enjoyed this activity! (shamrocks were printed on green paper and laminated)

Hunting for words!

 Shamrock CVC words
At another reading station, I had 3 sets of letter stamps and pads. The shamrocks where copied on green paper and laminated. (2 sets) I put them in basket, face down. Students took turns choosing a card and stamping the letters in the correct order to make the word.

Shamrock Addition
At a Math station, I had this worksheet and a bucket of foam dice. The students take 2 dice, roll them, add the dots together and color the shamrock (any green color) with the correct number. When a  student "won" they rolled the dice with their classmate and helped them "win" too!
