Connecticut :)

We are settling into our new home rather well. I love the area and my commute to work is 6 minutes AND no traffic - yippee!

We finished packing up our house, ate lunch, said our good-byes and began our journey. It took us 22 hours to drive ALL they way from Florida to Connecticut. Moving trucks are rather slow and the uphills were a killer on gas. My husband drove the moving truck with our 2 dogs and I drove our Prius with the 2 cats, 1 rabbit and yes, the found kitten. I just couldn't give her away. Everyone has their own kennel and we stopped over night on the 1st day because we were well beyond exhausted. Thank you Red Roof Inn - they allowed us to stay with ALL of our fur-kids. :)
Always in someone's way! This is our junk mail basket.

Here are some pictures of my classroom this year.
I saw this cute saying on Pinterest and I am fortunate enough to have a very artistic husband, he made the gum ball machine for me.
This bulletin board is to display the students work!

This was the first day the school was open to the teachers - it's much more colorful now!

Found Kitten...I'm foster mommy!

With everything going on in our lives I have 1 more event to add :)

On June 4th, my mother-in-law found this tiny kitten in the middle of the road. She weighed less than a pound, had worms and her left eye looked yucky (respiratory infection) :(. She would not eat and had an upset tummy. (4 weeks old)

Here she is a week later...
For some weird reason she REALLY enjoyed sleeping in the groove/track of the glass door. She was eating more and becoming more active....then all of a sudden blood appeared in her stool. (ouch/yuck). (5 weeks old)

Here she is 2 weeks later...doing much better - antibiotics seem to be working! No more blood in her stool and as you can see she's rather brave :). Here she is with our cats (L: Roxy, R: Jackson). (6 weeks old)

In 2 more weeks she will be going to her "fur-ever" home (hopefully). I am VERY sad about giving her away. I know the people will take good care of her, but this is my 1st foster kitten and I don't know if I can do this again. It's hard not to grow attached to her...she has been through a lot in her short life. I know giving her away opens the opportunity for us to help another one, but man oh's VERY tough.

Wow!!! New and exciting things are happening for us :)

I know...I know... I have been MIA for quite some time! I started grad school this August and it life has been a bit hectic. I don't know how people do it (work, school, families). During this time, my husband applied to Graduate schools for his Doctoral Degree. I'm VERY excited to announce that he was accepted at UCONN! (Go Huskies) We will be moving there this summer.

We went to visit Connecticut and the campus in May. We're in love! The town we will be living in only has 12,000 people! They have many state parks, lakes and trails. We cannot wait to begin our new adventure.

During these months, I have been applying to many towns. Unlike, Florida, each town in Connecticut has it's own public school system. I applied to 13 towns and waited...and waited...and finally received a call for an introductory interview.

Due to us still living in Florida (and the school year ending) I had to opt for a phone interview. It went ok...but no call back. :( I was pretty bummed. However, I knew that getting a job in new state would be quite difficult and was preparing myself for the substituting world. The same day I get an email from a school IN the town we're going to live in. I was jumping for joy, but then I found out that they wanted to interview me in person. Fortunately the interview dates were after school was out! I hopped on a plane and after flight delays, flight cancellations, flight changes and the car rental place being closed...I arrived in Connecticut.

The interview was a bit nerve wrecking. I was interviewed by 3 members and even though I only had 4 hours of sleep, I felt the interview went quite well. :) In less than 24 hours I flew from Jacksonville to Connecticut and back! It was all worth it too, because....I GOT THE JOB!

I have spent countless hours on Pinterest, Teachers Pay Teachers, blogs, etc... trying to find lots of resources so that I can implement the Kindergarten Common Core Standards. Alas! I have found everything I need in one book! I just downloaded the sample, and I'm in love. I emailed my team and principal the link to this awesome resource. I'm hoping they will agree to purchase this!  Head on over to their website and check it out!
